Convert an image to a vector EPS

Trace a PNG or JPG into vector EPS for print. EPS needs a Pro trial or plan; SVG stays free. Check an existing EPS below.

Applies to images you add next — each one traces as it lands.

Transparent areas become white shapes, and larger images are scaled down to about 0.6 megapixels before tracing.

Your image is uploaded to pic2svg's own server to be traced. What we keep, and for how long

A real trace: this PNG became 4 vector shapes; its 2 KB EPS contains no embedded pictures (BoundingBox 1000 × 500 pt).

Details

Illustrator EPS files are not yet tested; if the answer is “cannot tell”, open the file in a vector editor.

Before you send it to a printer

  • Set the print size

EPS uses the traced image’s pixel width as points: 1000 px = 1000 pt ≈ 13.9 in ≈ 353 mm. Scale the artwork to your required size in the printer’s software.

  • RGB colour

Colours are RGB, not CMYK or spot colours. Ask the printer to convert them if needed.

  • White background shape

Transparency becomes white, traced as a shape. Remove that shape in a vector editor if needed.

Image to EPS questions

Can I turn a PNG into an EPS?
Yes. Drop your PNG, inspect the preview, then choose Download EPS. JPG and the other supported images work the same way.
Is there a free PNG to EPS converter?
Here, tracing and SVG download are free without an account. EPS export uses the 7-day Pro trial (no card), then Pro at $19.99/month. The trial starts when you sign up with Google, or at your first login after verifying an email address. The browser-only check is free for EPS files from any source.
What is an EPS file?
Encapsulated PostScript is a graphics file format used in print workflows. Its contents can be vector paths, raster images or a mixture; the .eps extension alone proves none of these.
How do I know if my EPS is vector?
A vector EPS draws with path commands (moveto, lineto, curveto, then fill). An EPS that paints pixel data with image or colorimage is a bitmap in disguise; a DOS EPS’s TIFF preview is only a thumbnail. The check above reads this without uploading your file.
Will my printer accept it?
Ask the printer which EPS version, colour space and physical size they need. pic2svg writes RGB paths with a canvas-sized BoundingBox. The file has no preview image. If you choose AI export, it contains EPS-compatible PostScript. Some workflows require CMYK conversion or a different format.
