How we tested

28 October 2026; n = 1 image per assistant. ChatGPT Instant UI, regular chat (temporary chat refused image generation); Gemini Auto UI, temporary chat. Account tiers were not recorded. The exact underlying models were not recorded.

Creation prompt (same for both, verbatim): Create a simple flat logo image for a bakery called 'Rye & Co' with a wheat icon, 2 colours, white background.
ChatGPT conversion prompt (verbatim): Convert this image to an SVG file I can download.
Gemini conversion prompt (verbatim): Convert this image to an SVG file; We drew each SVG at the original’s size and measured how much of the logo’s ink lines up with the original.

Measurement details

SVGs rasterized with resvg at the original source size. Ink means RGB distance from white > 60; IoU is the intersection of source and rendered ink divided by their union. Higher means more overlap, not proof of identical geometry. The malformed Gemini file has lexical tag counts only; its IoU is not measurable.

Gemini’s file was copied with Gemini’s Copy SVG button; it is not well-formed XML (parser error, line 4). The pic2svg files came through pic2svg.com’s live browser upload path in Chromium, Balanced preset, including its approximately 600,000-pixel downscaling. These are four outputs from two source images, not a reliability study.

pic2svg on this page: production trace + this page’s cut-ready processing. Both originals were uploaded through this live page with colour flattening, the 600,000-pixel budget and Balanced preset; the resulting server SVGs were processed with the same client module used by this version. Background-coloured shapes become holes; one compound path remains per ink colour.
